Review of Superdrug's Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser

I was really excited when I heard that Superdrug had brought our their own version of the incredibly popular hot cloth cleanser. It was a lot more affordable than the infamous Liz Earle cleanser and retails normally at £5.99 but has £1 off at the moment! So I went out and bought it despite the fact that it was for Normal to Dry skin. I do have sensitive skin but I haven't reacted to the Vitamin E range before and I have tried a couple of their products so I thought I would give it a go.

I really love the look of the Vitamin E range and the Hot Cloth Cleanser is just as pleasing to the eye. It comes in a box and you do get a large muslin cloth with it which was a nice surprise. On the box it says:
"Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser with muslin cloth is ideal for removing dirt and make-up whilst providing gentle exfoliation. This will help improve circulation, leaving skin deeply cleansed, soft and radiant. Enriched with naturally sourced Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant that will help to shield your skin against environmental damage and premature skin ageing by combating the harmful effects of free radicals. The rich and creamy formula also contains a skin conditioning multivitamin complex comprising vitamins A, B, F and H, which combined with horse chestnut extract, helps to care for dry skin."
That is a lot! The question is does it do what it claims to do? The first day I used this I could really tell the difference from using my Aqueous Cream (I will explain this in a later post, but basically I use it as a gently cleanser) and you can tell how well it works by looking at the muslin cloth! I did find the cloth quite harsh on my skin though and it left my face feeling quite raw. The next day I used it my face did go red and was hot to touch for the rest of the day (I cleansed in the morning) and that night as I went to bed, my skin was really sensitive to my pillow case (which is egyptian cotton and incredibly soft) so I could tell I was having a reaction to the cleanser. The next day I woke up and my skin was still quite red so I have to lather on some Astral moisturising cream, after cleaning my skin with the Aqueous cream.

I am really disappointed that I had a reaction to this product as it was a really good cleanser. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't have sensitive skin. The formula is quite creamy and you don't have to use much of the product (probably the size of the swatch on my hand if you are doing both your face and your neck) which means the tube will go quite a long way as you get 200ml. Although my skin felt raw after using the muslin cloth this went away the first time I used it and my skin looked really healthy and whilst it was previously quite dull (have to love the effect that winter has on your skin!) this was not the case after I used the cleanser. If I hadn't had a reaction I would definitely still be using it!

So - not for sensitive skin - but buy it if you have normal skin! If you have any recommendations for high-street cleansers for sensitive skin, please let me know in the comments below!

    1. Was that the Naturally Radiant one? I know this one is really good and I hate my skin for being so sensitive as this is a gem of a product!
